Why Give?

Few agencies are more worthy of your financial support. Why? Because we serve and care for the most marginalized people in our community用eople who have HIV/AIDS, were homeless, and living in poverty. In brief, we care for people who are in search of, and deserve, hope and dignity.

Amazingly, because people like you care, most of our residents eventually transition into jobs, their own apartments, stable healthcare, sobriety, and lives teaming with meaning and purpose. We do the work that few others want to do預nd we do it in the midst of shrinking government, corporate and private dollars.

Help us make sure the residents of Bonaventure House and the Harbor can live full lives and have an opportunity to succeed.

* Planned Giving
Please consult your accountant and/or financial advisor for the most current information about U.S. tax laws.

Many people choose to support the AIDS Ministry through planned gifts, which include gifts of marketable securities such as stocks and bonds, estate gifts through a will or living trust bequests, charitable remainder trust, and gifts of real estate or tax-deferred retirement assets.

Listed below are summaries of the most common types of planned gifts. To access additional information and examples of each type of gift.

Gifts of SecuritiesGiving marketable stocks and bonds to Bonaventure House or The Harbor can be done simply and easily, and offers greater tax advantages than giving cash. If these securities have been owned for longer than one year and have appreciated in value, giving these securities to the AIDS Ministry allows you to avoid the capital gains taxes on those assets.

Bequests 末 You can remember Bonaventure House or The Harbor by making a gift through your Will or Revocable Living Trust.

Charitable Remainder Trust 末 A charitable remainder trust is a special tax-exempt trust that can receive long-term (owned for longer than one year) appreciated assets such as stock or real estate and by-pass the capital gains taxes on those assets. The trust makes annual payments to named beneficiaries, and ultimately pays the remaining assets (the "remainder") to the AIDS Ministry and other charity/ministry organizations of your choice.

Gifts of Real Estate 末 Real estate, especially real estate that has appreciated in value and is subject to capital gains taxes, is an excellent asset to use for a charitable gift, either as an outright gift or to fund a charitable remainder trust.

Gifts of IRA assetsSome donors chose to gift IRA assets or other tax-deferred retirement assets such as 401(k) or 403(b) accounts upon their death because of the potential for dual taxation (estate tax and income tax) on those assets. While current tax law discourages lifetime gifts of these assets to charity/ministry, Congress is considering legislation that would encourage these gifts during life, either as outright gifts of cash or to fund a charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust.

Bonaventure House and The Harbor are grateful for the generosity of those who have chosen to support the Ministry through planned gifts. As a means of appropriately recognizing and honoring those individuals during their lifetime, the Ministry has established the Heritage Society.
